It is important not to sit still for too long

It is important to avoid sitting still for extended periods throughout the day.

Try to get up regularly from your chair. Even if you sit straight back down again, you will be helping to keep your legs functioning. If you watch television with adverts, perhaps try to stand up and move around a little during some of the advert breaks.

If you feel light-headed when you stand up (a common problem as we get older), aim to march your feet for a few seconds whilst you are still seated, and then get up. This boosts circulation and can relieve the light-headed sensation.
