Information on domestic abuse and older people

There has been talk of domestic violence during the pandemic and lockdown, this can affect older people as well.

Adult abuse takes many forms but traditionally it was seen as physical, but there are many invisible forms of abuse. Abuse has no age, gender or race boundaries and can be perpetrated by a family member, carer or neighbour. Please do seek help if you are struggling with this in any way.

Call Action on Elder Abuse helpline on 0808 808 8141 or call 999.

Abuse of older people also includes not caring for someone properly (neglect), pressuring someone to give away money or property and threats, harassment or forcing someone to live somewhere they don’t want to.
