Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a condition where the protective cartilage on the ends of bones begins to break down, causing pain, swelling and stiffness.
The exact cause is not known however several factors can increase the risk of developing osteoarthritis including:
- Joint Injury
- Other health conditions (secondary arthritis) e.g. Rheumatoid arthritis or gout
- Age
- Family History
- Obesity
- Being female

Common symptoms include stiffness, tenderness, a grating or crackling sound when moving the affected joints and pain.
